Mounted Archery

Horseback rider doing mounted archery in the forest

Getting started in mounted archery? We can streamline you into using a bow and arrow while astride with solid and proven riding techniques, strong and stable bow drawing mechanics, and safe and convenient weapons handling.

Are you already experienced in horseback archery? Come try something outside the typical competition circles, with unit tactics, new games, and mixed weapons, as well as techniques for drawing war weight bows.

We use Asiatic style bows—shelfless, short, primarily static recurve bows, sometimes called “horse bows”—and Asiatic archery techniques, shooting off the draw hand side with a thumb ring (specifically a “shallow hook” thumb ring).

Our system aims to keep integrity in the Martial art, keeping in mind that, as a sport, mounted archery was an exercise to keep the warrior ready for warfighting. That means training to ride in formations, without taped-off lanes, and with draw weights heavy enough to loose weapons-grade arrows over a distance into potentially armored opponents.
